6pm Evening Show                          June 5, 2010 - 12Noon & 6pm Evening Show                         ASU "Maxwell Performing Arts Theater"                             Theme of show to be announced Thu, 07 May 2009 14:35:15 -0400 http://martinezevansdancestudio.com/bb/view_topic.php?pid=152#152 152@http://martinezevansdancestudio.com/bb Topic: April's Retirment Message: Dear Parents and Dancers:It is so hard to believe I have been dancing for the past 47 years.  It’s even harder to believe I have been so blessed to have had thousands of children come through my doors the past 24 years.   I can not express in words how humble and grateful I am that you have shared your children with me.  Many people in my life have expressed how thankful they are that I touched their child’s life in a positive manner.  In reality, these children have all deeply touched my life.  They have not only touched my life on a daily basis but also deeply affected many of my journeys through life in a profound way.After 24 wonderful years founding, teaching and directing at Martinez Evans Dance Studio, I have decided to retire as owner/director at the end of this season.  My decision was made after much deliberation and a lot of prayer.  I am very excited about what the future has in store for my life as well as the life of the studio.  M.E.D.S will continue to prosper since I have carefully chosen its new owner and director for whom I have the utmost faith and confidence.  I assure you, if I was not sure this was the perfect fit, I would not retire at this point.  I would like to introduce Miss Jamie Lee as your new owner and director.  She was literally one of my very first students when I opened in 1985 and she danced with me for 10 years.  She and I have maintained a very close relationship throughout our years.  Jamie is very talented and seasoned in all forms of dance.  She began her dance career as a young girl when she was awarded a dance scholarship to the Tremaine Dance Academy in North Hollywood, CA.  Jamie studied dance with world renowned dancers until the age of 17.  At the age of 17, she then began her Ballroom Dance career as an instructor and director with Fred Astaire Ballroom Dance Studio in Augusta, GA, Greenville, SC and Louisville, KY.  Ms. Jamie Lee has spent many years directing and teaching Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical and Hip Hop to children of all ages and Ballroom Dance to adults ages 18 and above.  During Jamie’s tenure as a dancer as well as a ballroom and traditional dance instructor, she has competed and won many national, regional and local dance competitions with her students as well as on a professional level.  Ms. Jamie Lee is the proud mom of 4 children, 3 boys and 1 girl whose ages range from 6 years to 15 years.  She is currently engaged to a wonderful man named Brent Allen.  Brent is the proud father of 2 boys and soon, they will become a family of eight.  Jamie, Brent & their children are deeply involved at The Sanctuary Church in Evans.  Brent is also a Ballroom Dance Instructor and began his professional teaching career with Fred Astaire Ballroom Dance Studio in Augusta, GA in 1990.  In 2000, Brent opened Steppin’ in Time Ballroom Dance Studio, located in Louisville, KY which he operated for 4 years.  In 2004, Brent moved back to Augusta where he calls home.  During his 20 years as a ballroom dance instructor, he has competed and won many national, regional and local ballroom dance competitions with his students as well as on a professional level.  Jamie and Brent are National Ballroom Champions.  This did not surprise me since Jamie had easily mastered Ballet, Tap and Jazz when she was my student.  Jamie and Brent are certified by the National Dance Council through Gold Level and are members of the United States Ballroom Dance Association (USBDA), as well as, Dance Masters of America.This summer they will remodel the building next to the studio where they will offer Ballroom Dance classes.  Jamie and Brent will perform a Ballroom piece at each dance recital in June.There will be no major changes to the studio.  Staff, tuition, registration, scholarhsips and costume fees will remain the same.  There will only be two minor changes to the studio: 1.) Ballroom Dance lessons will be included in the overall plan/schedule; and 2.) the name of the studio will be modified since one corporation must be dissolved in order to correctly establish a new one.  The new name for the studio will be Martinez Evans Dance Academy.Miss Julie will remain Assistant Director and Competition Team Coach as well as Mrs. Laruen, Mrs. Jackie and Miss Sarah.  Mrs. Rachel is the only teacher in question due to her health issues.  Mrs. Barbara will not be back next season.  Her husband has been relocated to Memphis, Tennessee.  Mrs. Barbara will be moving after National Competition this summer.I find it ironic that my last recital will be “Circle of Life”.  At the time I decided to produce this recital, I did not know I would be retiring.  However, though this circle of my life will be complete, it will not be ending.  Jamie has hired me as a consultant for the next two years, which means you will still see me around since she and I will be arm in arm.  I will, also, continue to produce the annual recital’s and work with Pete Wilson Photography during picture week. Her desire is to maintain the love and quality that has been poured into M.E.D.S. the past 24 years.So what does my future have in store for me??  Mike and I are gearing up to open a Bed & Breakfast in Northern Georgia in 2013.  This has been a dream of ours since we have been married.  Once it is established, you will be the first to know details.  In the meantime, I will be working with Jamie and the staff closely over the next two years.I am so very excited for my staff and students at M.E.D.S.  You will know very soon how talented, creative and loving Ms. Jamie is.  Throughout the rest of this season, Jamie and Brent will visit the studio to observe the classes and get to know you and your children.I pray everyone will embrace Jamie and give her a chance to prove her leadership and creativity.  I believe in her and I know you will too.Last but not least to the friends I have developed over the past 24 years.  If it were not for you I would not survived the death of my oldest son, Ryan, my parents and all the ups and downs life brings.  If not for you I would have closed my doors long ago in depression.  I do believe with all my heart that through God all things are possible.  He brought me you in the good times and bad and through Him life went on and the “son” continued to shine.  Thank you for the laughter and the tears.  Continue to believe and have faith in Him.For my last recital, June 7th, I would like to invite students that have taken dance at M.E.D.S. for the past 24 years.  I have asked Mr. Wilson to take a group picture at the end of the Sunday Matinee Recital.  I would love one last picture of some of the thousands of students that have graced our studio home.   If you know of anyone that has taken from M.E.D.S., whether they are taking somewhere else, married, single, etc.,  please ask them to email me @Dnzdirector@remove-this.yahoo.com.Thank you, again, for allowing your children to be a part of my life.  Thank you for, so, richly enhancing my life.  I will be, forever,  in your debt.Yours in Dance,April Storm HartsellFounder/Director Fri, 03 Apr 2009 22:53:46 -0400 http://martinezevansdancestudio.com/bb/view_topic.php?pid=68#68 68@http://martinezevansdancestudio.com/bb Topic: Words of Wisdom Message: I've learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow.""I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles these three things:a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights."
